Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.
My Beyerdynamic DT880s (250 ohm version) sound very similar in the mid and high range to my speakers which use 511 horns, although my speakers are not VOTTs. If the DT880s have a fault it's that the bass is somewhat rolled off.
My Sony MDR7506s, on the other hand, don't have quite the detail or imaging of the DT880s, and there is a small peak in response at 10kHz, but the bass is flawless. They're also quite a bargain at $90 or so.

I just place my VOTT's facing each other about 4 feet apart and place a chair inbetween.![]()

THe only criteria to compare is resolution. THe sennheizer are my favourite. The difference being that headphones you can hear
and speakers you can also feel the sound .
Yes, indeed. My Grado 225is have the resolution of the 511s, but sound considerably brighter. With the DT880s, the sound is very similar when I take them on or off my head, if I carefully match the volumes. A friend has Grado RS1is, which sound more like the 511s, and may sound a little better. But I'm working on that.

head phones sound really good, but unless you have a sub under your chair you'll be missing somthing.
